Marion, IN – Lauren Tamayo and Brooke Miller of Team TIBCO took 2nd and 3rd respectively in the Two Bridge Classic Criterium in Marion, Indiana, Saturday.
What on paper looked to be a more technical course turned out to have much wider, faster turns overall. Consequently, said Miller, “It was a hard course on which to control the race. Because a lot of the corners were more sweeping, you could ride practically five abreast through the turns. The race was too fast to get an attack to stick, and too swarmy to really control otherwise.”
On the final lap, Team TIBCO had a lead-out train set up, with Joanne Kiesanowski, Amber Rais and Emma Rickards setting up in front of Tamayo, who was to be the final lead out for Miller.
“It just didn’t work out well. Because of the speeds, we got shuffled toward the end,” Miller said. “I lost Lauren’s wheel. I was a couple riders back. She was on Tina Pic’s (Colavita/Sutter Home) wheel. Lauren jumped first, and then Tina went at about 200 meters to go. I was just too far back to catch Tina.”
Instead, she caught her teammate and the two Team TIBCO riders finished essentially side by side on the line. Kiesanowski continued her sprint and took 6th.
